Though he grew up surrounded by wrestling and wrestlers, as a teen Bret Hart
didn't want to become a wrestler himself.
Sure, he was a successful amateur at Ernest Manning High School in Calgary,
he hawked programs for his dad at age six, set up the ring, did intro music
and later
made money refereeing matches for his father. But did you know that he took
one year
of broadcasting at Mount Royal College with the dream of one day becoming a
movie
director?
But destiny called, and he began training with some of the wrestlers on the
Stampede circuit.
It wasn't long before he was in the ring and starting to build a reputation.
No one can say that Bret Hart hasn't paid his dues. Anyone who used to go to
Maple Leaf Gardens in the early 80s can remember him in opening matches, facing
some newcomers on their way up, and veterans on the way down. But eventually he
struck upon a gimmick that would work. He took the nickname 'Hitman' from
Thomas
Hearns after the boxer lost to Sugar Ray Leonard. He began wearing
sunglasses during
interviews, initially to hide his nervousness, but it became as much a part
of him as his
slicked-back hair.
Alongside brother-in-law Jim Neidhart, he formed a tag team called the Hart
Foundation. And, once teamed with Jimmy 'The Mouth of the South' Hart, they
rose to
the top of the WWF tag team heap, holding the tag titles twice (once without Jimmy Hart).
In the early 90s, Neidhart was set aside as Bret concentrated on singles
wrestling and won the Intercontinental title on two occasions. And
eventually, he topped
all of that with the WWF World title -- five times and counting.
Western Report magazine called him "almost certainly the best known Albertan
on earth."
He enjoys drawing cartoons during his free time. Bret Hart beat Ric Flair at WCW Starcade 98, which was about his first major match since his WCW debut. He then soared on to take the US Heavyweight Title from Diamond Dallas Page with ease.
Till this day,Bret Hart-the rugged technician, whose former training was in the dungeons of Calgary Alberta Canada. For over 14 years in the WWF, he has thrilled his fans and made his way to become a 5 time World Wrestling Federation champion. He has learned to wear his opponents down either technically or mechanically. He is undoubtly the one and only Excellence of Execution, and more importantly, the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
Bret Hart draws many cartoons in his free time. Here are just some of his drawings:
